The first club race of 2024 saw 23 riders present themselves to the start line at Double Bridges. Easing into the New Year this course is only 26kms long with but a few modest undulations. The flip side of this is it’s normally ridden full gas with no opportunity to recover or ease straining legs
Â
After a brief neutralised start the pace was on and the peleton quickly split into three groups. The outward leg had an easterly headwind that made it hard for some riders particularly over the first rolling undulations and along the straight leading to Koporanga Hall
Â
The turnpoint was in Mauriceville adjacent the Hatuma Limeworks. Rounding this the riders had a tailwind that increased the pace and encouraged a very high speed return leg. Riders made a left turn into the Bluff Rangitumu road closely followed by a short, sharp push over the bluff. The finish line was a couple of km’s further down the road after the sharp left turn and saw each group make a bunch sprint for line honors

Well done to Toby Evans for his 1st place
