Tuesday evening and the weather conditions for the inaugural ACM road race were warm with a blustery nor’ westerly breeze across the 15km out and back TT course on Matahiwi road.
A total of 24 riders turned out to take on the undulating parcours that is seen as a grading race and a test to see who’s been riding over winter and who’s been spending too much time on the sofa! Nice to see new faces and older ones coming back to Tuesday night events.
At only 15kms distance this course is surprisingly tough. There is only a single steep ramp but a number of false flats plus the effect of a cross wind that is often a hindrance rather than a help. Pacing is also important as it is easy for a rider to go off too quick and struggle to maintain a high pace for the full distanceÂ
Results detailed below. Notably no one cracked the 40kph mark this year though Derek de Zwart came very close. Well done to all riders for turning out and giving it a go.
