Race Report – 17 March 026 Club Criterium Champs Thistle Ave
The club crit champs was held at the Thistle Ave circuit off Ngaumutawa road in Masterton. It was a near perfect evening, warm and dry with an easterly breeze
Turnout again was middling with sixteen riders fronting up to the start line. They were divvied into A and B/C grades with 7 and 9 riders in each respectively
The format for each race was the same; neutralized for half a lap and then off racing for twenty minutes. Every 3rd lap was a sprint lap. At the 20 minute mark there was a whistle so the riders knew they had a final 3 laps to the finish line
With the B/C grade off first it soon became clear the two front runners, who normally race in A grade, were riding clear of the bunch never to be caught again. They dominated the front of the race with the eventual 3rd place getter trying hard but not able to close the gap. The remainder of the riders stayed in a group until the finish
The A grade race appeared more competitive with a group of four out front and the twosome of Dave Drummond and Andy Osmond chasing hard to get back on terms. Unfortunately for Terry Blackburn he was off the pace but worked hard to finish the race
Well done to all the riders who turned up to compete and thanks to the organisers and marshals for making the race possible
