Club Hill Climb Champs 2026

Race Report – 3 February 026 ACM Hill Climb Championships

It was a cool, grey and damp Wairarapa evening for the ACM hill climb champs up the Admiral Hill road. The rain had been steady all day but gave the riders a brief hours respite for the race up the hill

A total of 17 riders presented themselves to the start line for the 6.45km to the finish on the first summit. This included two ebikes

The start of the parcours is a false flat that leads up and into the initial twisty section. There is a moments respite between this section and the next, ‘The Wall’ that is the steepest part of the climb. This section is only 500 metres long but can lose riders a lot of time. Once over The Wall there’s a brief flat followed by a series of ramps up to the finish on the first summit  

Due to the inclement weather and modest number of riders there was a mass start rather than the usual start with 30 second intervals. An initial bunch set off in a flurry however this soon became strung out as the riders hit the first slopes. For most it was an individual time trial against gravity till they hit the finish line

Well done to Nick for a good win and showing the club stalwarts how it’s done
