Race Report - 22 October 2024 ACM Thistle Ave Kermesse
Â
Tuesday evening and perfect weather conditions for the ACM Kermesse held on a new circuit at Thistle Avenue off Ngaumutawa road in Masterton. An easy 23 degrees with a hint of a southerly breeze made for a great evening’s  racing
Â
The circuit comprised all new roads with a super smooth finish so no obstacles to negotiate. The 25 riders who turned out were split into C Grade with 8 and a combined A & B Grade with 17 riders respectively
Â
C Grade were off first, both grades racing the same format of 15 minutes + 2 laps. Alternate laps were sprint laps for points
Â
During the C Grade race the bunch gradually spread out with large splits appearing between some of the riders. The lead seesawed back and forth but eventually it was Jorge Sandoval who took the most points
Â
The combined A & C Grade race was a more spirited affair with the riders rapidly lining out as the group got up to speed. After several laps a breakaway of 5 riders was established however this was whittled down to 4 as Caleb Roberts dropped off the pace. Several riders managed to get lapped but carried on to the end and there was an emergency wheel change for one unlucky rider who punctured a back wheel.
Big thanks to the volunteers and helpers who made the race possible.
