About the event

Notice of Motion to invite Central  BMX club to join ACM as a 3rd section of the club.

The AGM committee fully supports the proposal for the Central Wairarapa BMX to join ACM as a third section.

Background: The Central Wairarapa BMX Club has been working over the past few years to redevelop the BMX track located along to the Lime Path down from the Colin Pugh Sports Bowl.  A core group of volunteers have been involved in repairing the track and completing works around to the start gate.  They are now looking to grow to the next level and have identified ACM as providing them with the best partnership to develop the BMX Club.

The attached links have additional information around Central Wairarapa BMX Club and what they have been doing over the past few years:The birth [and rebirth] of BMX - Wairarapa Times-Age Facebook Page (Central Wairarapa BMX Club | Masterton | Facebook) Central Wairarapa BMX - Ground Effect BMX Track - Masterton District Council (mstn.govt.nz) Advantages for ACM with the addition of BMX:

Several benefits including:BMX is a perfect fit for ACM within the local cycling community.  BMX is extremely popular with younger riders and their families.  By adding BMX to ACM then we have another entry in to cycling in general, and a pathway into road cycling / harriers within the same club.

Membership of BMX (currently expected to be 10-15 people) would immediately increase the membership of ACM.  As well as potentially penetrating into a new market, this also helps with spreading current ACM overheads over a greater membership basis. Increasing ACM membership can only help in future by being able to show that the ACM club as a whole is growing.  Being able to point to a increasing membership is particularly important in future renegotiations regarding access to the Clubrooms at Colin Pugh Sports Bowl as well as able to advertise ACM to the wider community.

One issue that has been raised is what happens to money that has already been accumulated by ACM over the years. If BMX is successful in joining ACM then they will have access to ACM funds in the same way that Harriers and Cycling have access to funds.  Any funding requests will undergo the same scrutiny by the ACM committee as is currently in place for Harriers and Cycling.  A BMX Delegate will also be added to the ACM Committee.
