There were 31 riders who turned out for the 32km handicap race from Double Bridges up to the turnpoint in Mauriceville returning to finish up Kaka Amu road on Rangitumau. The evening was warm and dry but with a noticeable southerly blowing
The first leg to the turn point in Mauriceville was fast aided by the southerly. The eleven riders in Break had a 7 minute deficit to make up on the ten riders in Limit and at the turn had made up 3 minutes. By the same token the eight riders in Scratch with a 14 minute deficit to Limit had made up two minutes on Break by the turn point
By the beginning of the climb to the finish line the hard working riders in Break had caught Limit and eventually claimed the first four places. Scratch were nowhere in sight having failed to close down the gap to Break and Limit. Well done to Stephen Price for claiming 1st place on a very fast and punchy race
Next race is Tuesday 6 February starting at 6.00pm at the Gladstone church. This will be the Club Road Race championships with two laps of the Millers Road circuit
Thanks to the organisers and truck people for keeping the race safe and see everybody again next week
